Empties | The Shower Edit.

Empties posts are few and far between! I rarely use up products these days because I am constantly trying out new things so everything gets put into rotation. I had to admit to myself that I have a real bad hoarding problem. My bathroom was beginning to look like a Boots aisle, so I decided to use up as many products as I could before buying any more. I now have a little collection of empties sat in an old Glossybox waiting to be recycled and it is such a good feeling to see empty products and knowing you have accomplished a goal.

LUSH Big Shampoo
★★★★★

I have mentioned this in previous Empties posts because I absolutely love this shampoo from Lush. It is a sea salt shampoo designed to give your hair the maximum amount of volume, freshness, shine and softness. I love to use this because a little bit goes a long way – it lathers up so richly with even the smallest amount. It takes my hair a lot longer to go greasy when I have used this and has a beautiful fragrance of neroli, mandarin, orange flower absolute and vanilla.

LUSH Mask of Magnaminty
★★★★★

Another Lush product – I can’t help myself, they have pride and place in my bathroom. This face and body mask is by far one of my favourite scrubs to exfoliate the skin. It is a fresh peppermint fragrance so it instantly refreshes the skin. I find this really helps to control breakouts on my skin and any redness that occurs. This particular pot was a smaller one that I was using purely on my face and is the self-preserving formula. I like to keep this on for about ten minutes while taking a bath.

The Body Shop Frosted Plum Shower Gel
★★★★☆

I did a whole post on The Body Shop Festive Fruit Trio Shower Gels back in December and I absolutely love them. While Frosted Cranberry was my favourite, I got through Frosted Plum super fast because it made a beautifully scented bubble bath. These lather up so good while in the bath and in the shower, and make for a brilliant bath gel. This particular scent has plum extract and Community Fair Trade sugar from Paraguay and smells like blackcurrant Starbursts!

Creightons Vanilla & Macadamia Cocoon Bath & Shower
★★★★★

If I had to describe my favourite scent to you, I’d make you smell this. It is so, so ridiculously good and reminds me of Werthers Originals. It is a rich, toffee scent with notes of vanilla and macadamia and creates huge volumes of bubbles in your bath. I love to use this as a shower gel also because it smells so creamy and elegant on the skin after bathing. A little goes a long way with this fat tub – however, I find it so easy to go overboard with this because I seriously freaking love this stuff.

Lancome Trésor Midnight Rose Shower Gel
★★★☆☆

The Midnight Rose fragrance by Lancome is one of my all time favourites, particularly as a night time perfume. My boyfriend brought me a trio for Christmas that included a bottle of the perfume, a body lotion and a shower gel. I love the idea of perfumes as lotions/shower gels. While I obviously really liked the scent, I didn’t always feel like I was 100% clean using this shower gel because it didn’t lather up as a richly as I would have liked, so I felt I was using too much product in one cleanse. But the scent is gorgeous.

Soap & Glory Scrub of Your Life
★★☆☆☆

I have fallen out of love with Soap & Glory – I rarely use their products anymore. But I had this tube sitting on my windowsill for a while and decided to use it all up. This scrub is so thick I had issues squeezing it out of this tube in the end – I would much prefer it in a tub. It has the original Soap & Glory fragrance that we all love so much. It certainly isn’t the best body scrub they have – I do love the Sugar Crush scrub and the Breakfast Scrub so much more better but this is handy for traveling with.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap
★☆☆☆☆

As I mentioned in this post, I am a die hard liquid soap lover. I have heard great things about the Dr. Bronner range, but I wouldn’t recommend their liquid soaps. This 18-in-1 organic tea tree hemp soap smells really strongly like cleaning fluid and/or chemicals, which could be from the use of oils and citric acids. I found it didn’t lather up well either which left me feeling like my hands weren’t clean enough. It was incredibly watery as opposed to gel like or creamy and sometimes it burned my hands when I had dry skin.

5 Things About Blogging.

First of all, Happy Birthday to writing with eyeliner! It is totally crazy to think I have reached one year on here already. I have loved every minute of creating this blog and crafting it into something I am proud of and enjoy doing.I genuinely love blogging as a hobby, I think it is a great personal outlet and I am constantly experimenting with this little space. The Soap Bar.

I have always been a die-hard liquid soap lover, mainly because it satisfies my obsessive compulsive hand washing. For some reason, washing my hands with liquid soap always felt more hygienic to me than using a bar. However, I cannot deny how amazing it feels to lather up a good block into scented suds and how fun it was as a kid to squeeze the bar between your hands until it plops back into the bathtub. Recently I have started to fall back in love with using bars, some for different purposes and I have shaped a little collection of my favourite, well-loved soaps.

HONEY I WASHED THE KIDS
Lush

I love the name of this soap, it is too cute! This is my favourite scent from Lush with notes of honey, caramel, bergamot and sweet wild orange. The honey is designed to moisturize and acts as an anti-septic while the beeswax in it cleanses. The bergamot uplifts and the sweet wild orange refreshes. This lathers up beautifully under warm water and feels silky smooth and creamy on the skin. It is lovely to just run up your arms and legs in the bath and is perfect to use instead of a shaving gel, as it’s gentle on the hair follicles.

OUTBACK MATE
Lush

Another Lush soap! My boyfriend uses this at mine more than I do. This soap literally smells like freshly washed, sexy men. It is quite heavily a masculine scent, but it isn’t overpowering. This soap contains notes of lemongrass to uplift and anti-septic as well as peppermint oil to cool and invigorate. It doesn’t leave your skin dry and moisturizes the face wonderfully. I find this lathers so richly, creating gorgeous blue suds and a mini galaxy on the surface of the bar. It is great to just use without a sponge and smoothes along the skin easily on its own.

VERBENA SHEA BUTTER
L’Occitane

*not cruelty-free*

L’Occitane have a variety of soaps and this traditional shea butter bar smells wonderfully original with a slight masculine scent. I clearly have a thing for masculine scented soaps. It has shea butter to moisturize and is scented with citrus verbena which is nice and gentle on the skin. This is great for dry skin and I have found it really helps when the backs of my hands are going through some particularly rough days. It creates a lovely rich lather and gives you a calming yet zingy washing experience while maintaining skin’s natural balance.

TRADITIONAL COAL SOAP
Wrights

This bright orange bar is perfect for those times when you don’t want a heavily fragranced soap and want to opt for something more traditional. My grandparents have a bar on the bathroom sink and it always leaves my hands feeling hydrated and soft. I have a separate bar for my face for when I want to cleanse with something that is less harsh with less chemicals. This really helps to clear up my skin when it is going through a rough patch as it is an anti-septic and just helps to keep it refreshed on hot days.

The Body Shop Festive Fruit Trio.

Everyone has been raving about The Body Shop’s Frosted Plum Shower Gel so I took a special trip in there just to smell it – and then ended up purchasing it. They currently have an amazing offer on their shower gels. 1 is £4.00 or you can get 4 for £11 so I went for this offer and gave my friend the fourth one. These all smell absolutely incredible and I want to buy more from the seasonal range when I am next in store – particularly the sugar scrubs.

These shower gels lather up amazingly using only a small amount on your loofer/sponge.  They are soft on the skin, soap-free and leave your body smelling deliciously fruity for hours. I highly recommend these and I am considering trying out their non-seasonal range of shower gels in the future.

FROSTED CRANBERRY
From the Forests of North America

This one has turned out to be my favourite and it is also the scent I gave my friend who loves it also. This to me smells like Christmas in a bottle with notes of fresh cranberry and pomegranate.  It also contains Community Fair Trade honey extract from Ethiopia. I am saving this one for very last and I am considering stocking-up early for the next few months!

GLAZED APPLE
From the Italian Alps

This one is my boyfriends favourite with the fruity scent of green apple from Italy, candy-like notes and vanilla. Like the Cranberry one, it also contains Community Fair Trade honey extract from Ethiopia. I personally think this smells like sour apple bubblegum! I am currently using this one (boyfriend chose!) but I think it is my least favourite scent of the three.

FROSTED PLUM
From the orchards of Turkey

This smells so deliciously elegant and fruity-floral with notes of magnolia, peony and plum. It contains plum extracts from Turkey. It also contains Community Fair Trade sugar from Paraguay. I personally think this smells like blackcurrant Starbursts! This is probably my second favourite scent out of all three and I cannot wait to use this next!
